Session One, Introduction

Welcome to the first session of Post-Operational, a lightly curated art show delivered via the US Postal Service.  The idea is that art should not (in fact, cannot) be confined to a gallery and that accessibility is too important to be overlooked.  With that in mind, twelve artists will be creating ten postcards to be mailed out to participants; these postcards will also be available free online for anyone interested in downloading them.

All of the artists will be unpaid, but will receive a subscription to the project.  The cards will be created one at a time and each artist will not begin creation of their card until they have received the card before them, ideally (but not necessary) creating some kind of cohesive whole—like a game of conceptual telephone.  The artists were not given any theme, but were asked to somehow consider their work in relation to the show as a whole.  There will be no deadlines, just an understanding that the cards will be produced in the order listed below in some kind of timely manner.  These are original artworks specifically designed to be a part of this mailing art project and will most likely be 5” x 8”, although this could vary depending on the needs of the artist.  If you would like to participate in the project, please send $18 via the link to PayPal below (to help offset our production costs) and ensure your correct mailing address is included somewhere.  If you were looking to join after the mailing has begun, we will be keeping extras of the earlier cards around to be mailed out as needed.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to PostOperational@gmail.com.  Please note that the artists for this session and their theme (or lack-thereof) were chosen by Elliott Kaplan.  Depending on the success of this iteration, we would love to run additional sessions “curated” by different artists—but this is an experiment, so who knows?
